The Child’Space® Method is based on teaching parents how routine activities and play with their babies can stimulate developing motor, cognitive, emotional and social abilities, and improve co-regulation between babies and parents.
Child’Space® takes its name from an approach to interacting that respects a child’s space, as when he/she is exploring on her own, and adjusts activities to suit his/her pace and temperament.
Child’Space® helps parents and caregivers by teaching them how to observe their babies and to support their babies’ development.
Unlocking Your Baby’s Potential: The Chava Shelhav Child’Space® Method
At Child’Space®, we celebrate the incredible bond between parents and their babies. Our method empowers parents to become active partners in their child’s development journey.
By using routine activities and playtime, parents can stimulate their baby’s motor, cognitive, emotional, and social abilities while deepening their connection. We call this approach “Child’Space” because we respect a child’s unique pace and temperament, adjusting activities accordingly.
Our goal is to teach parents how to observe their babies closely and provide the support needed for their growth. By paying attention to the small details of their child’s actions and learning, parents gain a profound understanding of their child’s individuality.
Each Child’Space® session is filled with activities that boost a baby’s self-awareness and combine various skills to lay the foundation for new abilities. These sessions often lead to immediate improvements in a child’s life and prepare them for future milestones, both socially and psychologically.
Join us at Child’Space® and become an active participant in your child’s journey of growth and connection. Together, we’ll nurture your child’s potential and create lasting bonds that will enrich both your lives.

Who is Chava Shelhav?
Dr Chava Shelhav is a senior teacher of the Feldenkrais® Method, a system of improving human functioning through movement and awareness. She was born in Israel in 1940 and was one of the first students trained personally by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, the founder of the method. She has a PhD from the University of Heidelberg and a master’s degree from Boston University. She is also the founder of the Child’Space® Method, a holistic approach to child development that uses touch, movement, and communication to support babies in achieving developmental milestones.
After working with many adults and children, she could see that many problems arose already in early childhood. She realized how important it is to detect motor or behaviour problems in infant years. She has written several books and articles on the Feldenkrais® Method and the Child’Space® Method and has taught in many countries around the world.

Hamba.Bamba.Funda Non-Profit Organisation is Child’Space informed
HAMBA BAMBA FUNDA IS A section 18A approved NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION, FOUNDED IN 2019. IT IS BASED IN JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA AND ADVOCATES EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION FOR UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN FROM BIRTH UNTIL 2 YEARS OLD.
Early Childhood Education is a passion of the Founding Director of Hamba Bamba Funda (HBF), Ms Monja Boonzaier, and her dream is to help develop a ground-breaking Early Childhood Educational Training Program, unique to the South African culture.
Woven into the work that HBF do in Early Childhood Education in underprivileged communities, are principles of Asset Based Community Development (ABCD), trauma specific approaches. Somatic movement practices such as The Feldenkrais Method®, Chava Shelhav Child’Space Method, Postural Integration® and SomaSensing™ are implemented in the interaction.
One of the biggest challenges these mothers are facing is how to connect and build on having a positive and healthy relationship with their children when they live their day to day lives in a constant state of survival.
An essential part of HBF’s work is to pay attention to the young mother’s need for support, trust and to create a safe space to share and explore questions they might have about what they could do with their own lives or addressing concerns about physical or socio-emotional development of their child.
Our outreach program is a two-fold approach:
- Caregiver Intervention: We offer crucial support to mothers by educating them on the significance of parent-child interaction. Through workshops and guidance, we empower mothers to care for, engage with, and stimulate their children. When caregivers thrive, so do their little ones. 👩👦👦
- Child Intervention: As mothers practice these techniques with their babies, we channel sensory awareness through touch, voice, rhythm, gesture, song, and games. This provides infants with the opportunity to sense their own bodies and learn in an experiential way.
